SUMMARY
Ensures that all vehicles and equipment are functional and ready for immediate use. Render basic and advanced level emergency medical treatment to the injured or ill where ever located. Maintain certification as a paramedic through attendance at continuing education and recertification sessions. Provide complete and accurate documentation of events surrounding patient care. Act as a source of information to peers and subordinates. Make verbal and/or written reports to supervisors, physicians and other allied health practitioner as necessary.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Adhere to all policies and procedures defined in the Harrison County Emergency Squad Policy Manual and West Virginia Medical Standard Operating Procedure Manual. Ensure that equipment is present on all ambulances and that all equipment is fully operational. Ensure that all vehicles are fully operational by completing a vehicle check list. Restock supplies from the BLS and/or ALS supply cabinets to ensure that a sufficient quantity of supplies is on hand for any emergency. Ensure that medical supplies, drugs, and drug paraphernalia which have expiration dates are not expired and replace any supplies which are expired. Ensure that patient encounter reports (run sheets) are completed accurately and fully including additional narration of clinical findings, diagnoses, treatment, physician orders, and all other information which may be clinical, statistical or billing importance. Maintain familiarity and competence in delivery of basic and advanced life support treatment in accordance with Region 6/7 protocols and state standards of practice. Answer all calls for emergency care while on duty and respond to calls within 60 seconds and transport patient to appropriate facilities as needed.
Attend all mandatory staff meetings and training sessions. If personally contacted by telephone, radio, or other means during a disaster declared by officials of the County or State government or authorized officials of the Emergency Squad shall report immediately for duty to the Emergency Squad and remain until released by authorized official.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES
• Fill out a request form through E-Pro of all supplies that need to be ordered, or that you need stocked with including quantity currently on hand.
• Ensure that the vehicle and equipment are clean so that equipment remains functional and that a professional appearance is maintained via HCES Operating Policy1079–1081.
• Perform Drug checks daily on narcotics as per HCES Operating Policy 1010-1012.
• Provide instruction to other workers when necessary or called upon to do so.
• Perform public relations and community education activities other duties as may be assigned or required from time to time by Administration.
• Ensure you are in uniform per HCES Employee Policy 705.
• Working knowledge of departmental standard operating procedures and regulations.
• Ability to handle confidential information and matters in a discreet and professional manner.
• Thorough knowledge of the 3000, 4000 series protocol’s.
• Proper use of documentation in the EPCR.
• Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or general education degree GED.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
*West Virginia Department of Health certification as a Paramedic. National Registry Paramedic certification preferred, but not mandatory. *Current and Valid West Virginia Motor Vehicle License. *Current certification in the following nationally recognized training program. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Pediatric Emergency Pre Hospital Provider (PEPP) International Trauma Life Support-Advanced (ITLS) Advanced Medical Life Support (AMLS) Preferred but not mandatory.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Current training to comply with Harrison County and State OEMS policies in the following clinical areas: Interhospital Transport Protocol.

The employee must regularly lift and move more than 10 pounds, frequently lift and or move up to 100 pounds, and occasionally lift and or move up to 350 pounds. Specific visual abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Vision requirements may be achieved with corrective eyewear (glasses, contacts, etc.).
WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of the job the employee regularly works outside weather conditions. The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and in high precarious place and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. Due to the need to respond to emergencies, with appropriate PPE, employees may rarely be exposed to , fumes or air borne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold, extreme heat, risk of electric shock, risk of radiation and vibration.
REMOVAL FROM POSITION
Just as with any employee of HCES the Paramedic is at will employee and may be removed by the administration of HCES at any time for any reason.
