A new report released by NHTSA, titled “Lights and Siren Use by Emergency Medical Services” looks at data from National EMS Information System to evaluate the use of lights and sirens, its effectiveness and impact on patient outcomes, and recommendations for state and local EMS. HEALTH ADVISORY 138 2017 National Boy Scout Jamboree
This Health Advisory serves as a reminder to all healthcare providers and laboratorians to report outbreaks, communicable diseases, and unusual conditions or emerging infectious diseases during the National Boy Scout Jamboree as required by the West Virginia Legislative Rule for Reportable Diseases, Events and Conditions (64CSR7). West Virginia will host the 2017 National Boy Scout Jamboree from July 19-28, 2017 at the Summit Bechtel Family National Scout Reserve in Mount Hope, West Virginia. The 2017 National Boy Scout Jamboree is anticipated to be the largest mass gathering in the State’s history with over 40,000 scouts and staff from all over the United States and nearly 1,000 international scouts from over 80 different countries. The event is expected to bring an increased number of visitors to Fayette County and the surrounding areas. Additionally, scouts and thousands of additional youth and volunteers will be performing an estimated 500,000 hours of community service in all 55 West Virginia counties. Jeffrey Allen Pittman received his final call on July 14, 2017
Fire Chief and Paramedic Jeffrey Allen Pittman, 54 of Sophia received his final call on Friday July 14, 2017. Born June 28, 1963 he was the son of Charles J. and Lois Pittman. He was preceded in death by his sister Terri Rae Clay, and his brother Charles Glenn Pittman. For more information, click on the title above.
HEALTH ADVISORY 137 Legionnaire’s Disease in West Virginia
During the months of May and June 2017, West Virginia experienced more cases than expected of Legionnaire’s Disease (Legionella pneumonia). Clinical features of Legionnaire’s Disease generally include radiographic evidence of pneumonia with cough, fever, myalgia, and chest pain; hospitalization is common.
