EMT-I Extension
Per Melissa Kinnard, Interim Director, Office of EMS Due to an abundance of caution and to accommodate the change in the EMT-I certification, the January 1st deadline has been extended. An announcement will be forthcoming. Anyone with a current valid EMT-I card shall continue to function in that capacity until further notice. The 5000 series protocols will remain in effect until further notice. The EMT-I current scope of practice will remain in effect until further notice. Any EMT-I, who completed the paramedic bridge course and currently has a Paramedic Certification in their possession, shall function as a Paramedic. Those EMT-I’s who have completed the bridge course and have not received a Paramedic Certification shall function at the EMT-I level until the Paramedic Certification is received. The WV Office of EMS is currently reviewing the status of the EMT-I program and will announce details soon.
