The Emergency Medical Services for Children (EMSC) Program is designed to ensure that all children regardless of where they live, attend school, or travel receive optimal care during a medical or trauma emergency.  West Virginia's Governor Jim Justice has proclaimed May 23, 2018 as Emergency Medical Services for Children (EMSC) Day.  Please use this announcement as an opportunity to spotlight the unique needs of ill or injured pediatric patients, the quality of emergency medical care these children receive, and the challenges Emergency Medical Services (EMS) providers face when ensuring these children's needs are met.  It is also an opportunity to raise awareness regarding the need to not only improve specialized care for children in the prehospital and acute care setting, but to expand them.  Please take the time during National EMSC Day to provide a safety event for the children in your community, advocate for continued funding for the EMSC Program in Fiscal Year 2019, or to spend time training your staff and community to ensure preparedness when treating the pediatric patient.  Thanks for all you do for the children in West Virginia!
