April 9, 2018- First Responder Network Authority News

 

  • First Responder Network Authority CEO Mike Poth, Board Chair Sue Swenson, and staff were in the San Diego area last week for two days of meetings with Southern California tribal officials, including from the Barona Band of Mission Indians, the Jamul Indian Village, the La Jolla Band of Luiseño Indians, the Pala Band of Mission Indians, the Pauma Band of Luiseño Indians, the Rincon Band of Luiseño Indians, and the San Pasqual Band of Mission Indians.

 

  • First Responder Network Authority staff also presented a FirstNet network update at the Telehealth Alliance of Oregon Annual Meeting & Summit last week in Tigard.

 

  • Also last week, First Responder Network Authority staff presented a FirstNet update at the New England Division of the International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC) Conference in Portsmouth, New Hampshire.

 

  • First Responder Network Authority staff also presented a FirstNet update at the Mississippi Coastal Fire Chiefs Conference last week in Biloxi.

 

  • This week, the First Responder Network Authority will participate in the Texas Public Safety Conference in Galveston; the 2018 Model Performance in Community Risk Reduction Symposium in Reston, Virginia; the Critical Care Transport Medicine Conference in San Antonio, Texas; the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians (NAEMT) EMS 3.0 Transformational Summit in Arlington, Virginia; the Epicenter Summit 2018 in San Francisco, California; a meeting with the Red Cliff Band of Lake Superior Chippewa in Bayfield, Wisconsin; the Tennessee Association of Chiefs of Police Technology Expo Meeting in Franklin; a meeting of the Oklahoma Public Safety Broadband Network Board in Oklahoma City; the Los Angeles Area Fire Chiefs Mountain Retreat in Lake Arrowhead, California; and the Ohio International Trauma Life Support (ITLS) Conference in Columbus.

News from the Public Safety Advisory Committee (PSAC)

  • The 2018 June Public Safety Broadband Stakeholder Meeting is just around the corner. The first high-speed, nationwide wireless broadband network dedicated to public safety is now in the build-out phase, nearly 17 years after the events of Sept. 11, 2001 sparked the idea. First Responder Network Authority, or FirstNet, is moving forward as AT&T installs the special 700MHz, Band 14 spectrum to connect public safety communications in around the U.S.

Public-safety leaders created the FirstNet Association, an organization dedicated to bridging the gap between end users of the nationwide public-safety broadband network (NPSBN) and those responsible for the system's buildout, evolution and maintenance.

Wireless Week 4/3: AT&T, Verizon Announce Public Safety Cores

AT&T, the federal vendor for the FirstNet public safety network, launched the FirstNet evolved packet core, while Verizon unveiled its own public safety private core. Both companies said their respective systems separate first responder communications from commercial users.

 

Web and Social Media

The First Responder Network Authority's social media presence grew at its normal rate last week. Twitter gained 66 new followers, now at 9,816. Facebook has 2,947 followers. LinkedIn now has 4,014 followers. YouTube has 829 subscribers.
