First Responder Network Authority Weekly Update to the

State and Territory Single Points of Contact (SPOC) - October 16, 2017

FirstNet News

  • Alabama and Indiana opted in to the FirstNet network last week.  Watch the State Plans Dashboard Map continue to develop at www.firstnet.gov.

 

  • Also last week, FirstNet and AT&T launched a developer program geared toward first responders to encourage public safety-focused innovation.  The program will help equip first responders with state-of-the-art communications tools.

 

  • FirstNet provided testimony last week to the House Homeland Security Committee's Emergency Preparedness, Response, and Communications Subcommittee in Washington, D.C.  FirstNet's written testimony, as well as the testimony of the other witnesses, can be found here.

 

  • FirstNet Chief Technology Officer Jeff Bratcher gave a FirstNet update at the 6th Annual America's Spectrum Management Conference last week in Washington, D.C.

 

  • FirstNet Board member Kevin McGinnis gave a FirstNet update to the National Association of State EMS Officials (NASEMSO) Board of Directors and spoke in a breakout session at their Fall Meeting last week in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

 

  • Also last week, the FirstNet tribal team provided a FirstNet update to the Emergency Services Committee at the United South and Eastern Tribes (USET) Sovereignty Protection Fund Annual Meeting in Cherokee, North Carolina.

 

  • NTIA is seeking peer reviewers for the SLIGP 2.0 application process.  Please use this link for more information.  The due date has been extended to October 24, 2017.

 

  • This week, FirstNet will be participating in the International Roundtable of Community Paramedicine Conference in Las Vegas, Nevada; a meeting to discuss wireless communications with the European Union in Berlin and Munich, Germany; the New Jersey Wireless Deployment Summit in Monroe Township; the Major Cities Chiefs Association Fall Meeting in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; the National Congress of American Indians (NCAI) 74th Annual Convention & Marketplace in Milwaukee, Wisconsin; the Air Medical Transport Conference in Fort Worth, Texas; EMS World and a National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians (NAEMT) meeting in Las Vegas, Nevada; the Nevada Sheriffs' and Chiefs' Association Annual Training Conference in Las Vegas; the International Association of Medical Transport Communication Specialists General Membership Meeting in Fort Worth, Texas; Michigan Public Safety Broadband Forums in Alberta and St. Ignace; a National Advisory Council Integrated Public Alert & Warning System (IPAWS) Subcommittee Future Technologies Working Group; the Pennsylvania Emergency Preparedness and Hazmat Conference in Pittsburgh; an Arkansas Public Safety Technology Roadshow in Springdale; a meeting of the Wisconsin Interoperability Council in Fond du Lac; and briefings with Maryland public safety officials in Cecil, Frederick, and Prince George's counties.

Urgent Communications 10/12: FirstNet delivers initial state plans to U.S. territories in the South Pacific

FirstNet yesterday announced that it has delivered initial state plans outlining public-safety LTE deployment plans to governors in the U.S. territories of Guam, American Samoa and the Northern Mariana Islands, although no timetable has been established yet for those governors to make their "opt-in/opt-out" decisions.

With the addition of Alabama, over half the states have signed on to FirstNet, the emergency broadband network being run by AT&T in a private-public partnership.

Web and Social Media

FirstNet's social media presence grew at its normal rate this week.  Twitter gained 67 new followers, now at 7,753.  Facebook has 1,882 followers.  LinkedIn now has 3,095 followers.  YouTube has 582 subscribers.
