First Responder Network Authority Weekly Update to the

State and Territory Single Points of Contact (SPOC) - October 30, 2017

FirstNet News

 

  • FirstNet Chief Customer Officer Rich Reed and FirstNet staff met with the Pacific island territory SPOCs last week to discuss the details of each of their State Plans in Honolulu, Hawaii.

 

  • Also last week, FirstNet spoke to the National Association of State 9-1-1 Administrators (NASNA) at their Fall Meeting in Estero, Florida.

 

  • FirstNet staff also spoke at the 2017 Virginia APCO/NENA/Interoperability Conference in Roanoke last week, where FirstNet was the focus of a roundtable discussion and four breakout sessions.

 

  • FirstNet presented at the Northwest Tribal Emergency Management Council's Board meeting last week in Arlington, Washington.

 

  • On Sunday, FirstNet also met with the Fort Belknap Tribal Council in Harlem, Montana.

 

  • This week, FirstNet will participate in a House Subcommittee on Communications and Technology hearing in Washington, DC; the Public Safety Broadband Ohio Conference in Columbus; the Ohio EMS Chiefs Association Annual EMS Leadership Conference in Columbus; a meeting of the Vermont Public Safety Broadband Commission in Waterbury; a meeting of the New Hampshire Statewide Interoperable Executive Committee in Concord; a meeting of the International Association of Fire Fighters in Boston, Massachusetts; a meeting with Plymouth County fire chiefs in Plymouth, Massachusetts; a meeting with Cumberland County public safety agencies in Portland, Maine; a meeting with American Samoa officials in Pago Pago; and a meeting with the Standing Rock Sioux Tribal Council in Fort Yates, North Dakota.

 

  • The SAFECOM Nationwide Survey (SNS) is now live on the SAFECOM website, and will be open until February 28, 2018.  The SNS is a nationwide data collection effort to obtain actionable and critical data that drives our nation's emergency communication policies, programs, and funding.

News from the PSAC

  • The PSAC will hold its winter 2017 in-person meeting on December 14 in Atlanta, Georgia.

And we can't afford to wait for a signal to open up: when duty calls, we need to talk. AT&T launched a major upgrade to its Enhanced Push-to-Talk (EPTTT) offering, a walkie talkie-like service used by FirstNet and organizations with countless employees on the field - i.e. service fleets, government agencies and construction or utility companies - to instantly and cost effectively stay in touch.

FirstNet yesterday released a policy outlining the consultation process it will have with tribal nations after governors in states and territories have made their "opt-in/opt-out" decisions regarding FirstNet's nationwide public-safety broadband network (NPSBN).

Web and Social Media

FirstNet's social media presence grew at its normal rate this week.  Twitter gained 75 new followers, now at 7,903.  Facebook has 1,926 followers.  LinkedIn now has 3,194 followers.  YouTube has 592 subscribers.
