First Responder Network Authority Weekly Update to the

State and Territory Single Points of Contact (SPOC) - November 20, 2017

FirstNet News

  • North Carolina and Georgia opted in to the FirstNet network last week. Stay tuned for updates and watch the State Plans Dashboard map continue to develop at www.firstnet.gov.

 

  • Also last week, FirstNet provided an update during a panel discussion on disaster response at the Korea International Safety & Security Expo in Goyang, South Korea.

 

  • FirstNet staff and Alaska SPOC John Rockwell presented at the Alaska Municipal League's Annual Conference last week in Anchorage during a breakout session focused on FirstNet.

 

  • FirstNet staff provided an update at a meeting of the Department of Homeland Security's Emergency Communications Preparedness Center (ECPC) Steering Committee last week in Arlington, Virginia. PSAC Chair Tom Sorley was also in attendance.

 

  • FirstNet also held an initial in-depth discussion last week with the FBI's Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Division in Clarksburg, West Virginia.

  • Also last week, FirstNet joined NTIA on a State and Local Implementation Grant Program (SLIGP) 2.0 Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) Question and Answer webinar for SPOCs.  NTIA is seeking peer reviewers for the SLIGP 2.0 application process and is accepting peer reviewer resumes through mid-December 2017.  Please visit this link for more information.

  • FirstNet also shared a video thanking first responders for all they do, most especially during the holiday season.

  • This week, FirstNet will participate in the Texas EMS Conference in Fort Worth; the 2017 New England Council for EMS in Newport, Rhode Island; a meeting of the Rhode Island Interoperable Communications Committee in Providence; and the Melbourne Comms Connect Conference in Australia.

Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal today announced that he has accepted the nationwide public-safety broadband network (NPSBN) deployment plan offered by FirstNet and AT&T on behalf of his state, making Georgia the 31st state-not including two territories-to "opt-in" to the FirstNet system.

AT&T won valuable spectrum and billions of dollars to build the nation's first network for first responders when it was awarded the FirstNet contract earlier this year. But the carrier also hopes to leverage that contract to tap some promising markets that are still in their infancy.

Twenty-nine states have decided to opt in to FirstNet ahead of the Dec. 28 deadline, which essentially implements the FirstNet/AT&T build-out plans submitted to each state. FirstNet aims to complete its core network in March 2018 and will ultimately be available across 56 states and territories, with a complete build-out of network infrastructure around 2020.

Web and Social Media

FirstNet's social media presence grew at its normal rate this week.  Twitter gained 67 new followers, now at 8,137.  Facebook has 2,043 followers.  LinkedIn now has 3,297 followers.  YouTube has 613 subscribers.
