State and Territory Single Points of Contact (SPOC) - December 4, 2017

FirstNet News

  • Vermont and Ohio opted in to the FirstNet network last week. Stay tuned for updates and watch the State Plans Dashboard map continue to develop at


  • FirstNet will hold a combined Committee and Board Meeting on Thursday, December 7, from 9:00-11:30 a.m. EST via teleconference and WebEx. Further information on the meeting, including dial-in information for the public, is available here on the FirstNet website.


  • Last week, FirstNet Chief Customer Officer Rich Reed and Chief Technology Officer Jeff Bratcher gave a general FirstNet presentation at the Public Safety Communications Europe (PSCE) Conference in Madrid, Spain.


  • FirstNet was also in Indianapolis, Indiana last week for a SPOC team-hosted FirstNet launch event that brought together stakeholders from across the state to discuss post opt-in next steps. FirstNet staff also presented at the Indiana EMS Association Conference last week and staffed an exhibit booth.


  • FirstNet joined the Michigan SPOC team for two public safety broadband forums last week in Dimondale and Kalamazoo.


  • Last week, the FirstNet tribal team attended an Inter Tribal Council of Arizona meeting in Phoenix, as well as meeting with: Ottawa County tribal law enforcement officials in Wyandotte, Oklahoma; the Hualapai Tribe in Peach Springs, Arizona; the Fort Belknap Indian Community in Harlem, Montana; the Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe in Cass Lake, Minnesota; and the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe in Fort Yates, North Dakota.

  • This week, FirstNet will participate in the Eleventh Canadian Public Safety Interoperability Workshop in Ottawa; the Responder Labs GovCloud Workshop in Washington, DC; a Michigan Public Safety Broadband Forum in Novi; a Rhode Island Interoperable Communications Committee meeting in Lincoln; a Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) Advisory Policy Board meeting in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; the Association of County Commissions of Alabama Legislative Conference in Florence; a FirstNet Technology Roadshow in Little Rock, Arkansas; the 5th Annual "LIVE" Profiles in Excellence Program in Washington, DC; a FEMA Region I Regional Interagency Steering Committee meeting in Boston, Massachusetts; a Connecticut Statewide Interoperability Executive Committee meeting in Middletown; the International Association of EMS Chiefs Conference in Washington, DC; a meeting of the Metropolitan DC 9-1-1 Directors in Washington, DC; a Heart of Texas Council of Governments Town Hall in Waco; and a Mississippi Wireless Communications Commission meeting in Jackson.

Urgent Communications 11/30: Ohio becomes 33rd state to make FirstNet 'opt-in' announcement

Ohio officials today announced that the state has accepted the nationwide public-safety broadband network (NPSBN) deployment plan offered by FirstNet and AT&T on behalf of his state, making Ohio the 33rd state-not including two territories-to "opt-in" to the FirstNet system.


VermontBiz 11/29: Scott opts-in to FirstNet/AT&T plan for first responder network

Governor Phil Scott Wednesday afternoon announced he has decided to opt-in to the federal FirstNet plan to deliver a wireless broadband network to the state's public safety community. The Nationwide Public Safety Broadband Network is expected to provide Vermont's first responders with access to a reliable, secure and technologically robust cellular network that is now under development.


Washington Exec 11/28: AT&T Upgrades Push-to-Talk Service

The upgrade features Push-to-X functionality, which allows for sending highly secure texts, photos, videos, voice recordings, files and location data to groups and contacts on FirstNet and AT&T networks.

Web and Social Media

FirstNet's social media presence grew at its normal rate this week.  Twitter gained 67 new followers, now at 8,267.  Facebook has 2,097 followers.  LinkedIn now has 3,349 followers.  YouTube has 616 subscribers.
