First Responder Network Authority Weekly Update to the

State and Territory Single Points of Contact (SPOC) - December 11, 2017

FirstNet News

  • The FirstNet Board met last week via teleconference to discuss updates from the various Committees and FirstNet business units and to consider next steps for the organization in 2018.

 

  • Also last week, FirstNet President TJ Kennedy participated in a panel on use cases and best practices in government for Federal News Radio's 5th Annual "Profiles in Excellence" Federal Executive Forum at the National Press Club in Washington, DC.

 

  • FirstNet staff provided an update last week at the Eleventh Canadian Interoperability Technology Interest Group (CITIG) workshop in Ottawa, Canada.

 

  • FirstNet staff attended the International Association of EMS Chiefs (IAEMSC) Leadership Summit over the weekend in Washington, DC.  PSAC EC Member Chief Niles Ford joined FirstNet staff in providing an update during a full Sunday morning session.

 

  • FirstNet provided an update last week to the FBI's Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Advisory Policy Board in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

 

  • The monthly Federal Agency Points of Contact (APOC) conference call was also held last week, to provide updates on recent activities and upcoming milestones heading into 2018.

  • This week, FirstNet will participate in a Public Safety Broadband Regional Forum in Phoenix, Arizona; a regional tribal meeting in Phoenix, Arizona; a Washington Statewide Interoperable Executive Committee meeting in Olympia; a Department of Defense Public Safety and Emergency Management Communications Working Group meeting in Alexandria, Virginia; a briefing with the Maryland National Capital Park and Planning Commission Police in Hyattsville; a briefing with Washington County authorities in Williamsport, Maryland; and the Winter 2017 PSAC In-Person Meeting in Atlanta, Georgia.

 

  • SAFECOM and the DHS Office of Emergency Communications (OEC) request your support.  The SAFECOM Nationwide Survey (SNS) seeks to obtain actionable and critical data that drives our nation's emergency communications policies, programs, and funding.  SAFECOM seeks responses from emergency response provider organizations at all levels of government, as well as Tribal Nations. The FirstNet initiative, where frequencies in the 700 MHz LTE band is being used to create a dedicated public safety network, is laying the appropriate groundwork for these IoT gains.

Web and Social Media

FirstNet's social media presence grew at its normal rate this week.  Twitter gained 83 new followers, now at 8,350.  Facebook has 2,124 followers.  LinkedIn now has 3,375 followers.  YouTube has 618 subscribers.
