October 7, 1985 - February 1, 2014

Michael Dale Garrett, 28, of Clarksburg passed away Saturday, February 1, 2014 doing what he loved and lived for in the line of duty.

He was born October 7, 1985 in Clarksburg; son of Dale Allen and Faith Marie Lake Garrett.

Michael is survived by his parents; one brother, Justin Michael Brady and wife Ashley; three sisters, Julie Ann Freeman and companion John Carder, Anna Marie Roberts and companion Daniel Hebb, Katie Elizabeth Garrett and fiancé Chad Gorman; maternal grandparents, Joe and Nancy Casto Scardina; nieces and nephews, Jason Brady, Christian and Morgan Davis, Madison, Ethan , Skyler and Kaden Brady, Seth Garrett, Emma and Chase Roberts; two uncles, Sam and wife Pam Scardina , and Tony Scardina and companion Tara Kester; numerous other great aunts, uncles, cousins; extended family of Nutter Fort Fire Department; special friends, Aaron Cutright.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Lelearnd Dale and Sara Catherine Swiger Garrett.

Michael attended South Harrison High School, Alderson-Broaddus College and was currently attending Fairmont State University where he was scheduled to graduate in May with an associate's degree in Emergency Services.

He was currently employed at Grant Town EMS and Upshur County EMS as an EMT-I and as an instructor for RESA 7 at WVU.

He began his EMS and firefighter career at the age of 15 by attending the Junior EMS Camp at Harrison County EMS and at 16 as junior firefighter at Nutter Fort Fire Department. He was currently the treasurer and many things for the fire department.

Michael became a first responder, an EMT-B and EMT-I. He was a member of Our Lady Catholic Church. His passion in life was helping others; he also had a great sense of humor and a smile for everyone. He has worked and helped many EMS and Fire Departments in the surrounding counties and even several states.

The family will receive friends at the Davis Funeral Home, Rt. 98/ Clarksburg on Friday from 9:00am-9:00pm.

Catholic Funeral Liturgy will be conducted at the Nathan Goff Armory, 5 Armory Rd, Clarksburg, WV 26301 on Saturday, February 8,2014 at 11:00 am with Father Casey Mahone presiding. Interment will follow in the Greenlawn Masonic Cemetery.

In Lieu of flowers the family ask that memorial donations be made to Nutter Fort Volunteer Fire Dept. scholarship fund at 1415 Buchannon Pike, Nutter Fort, WV 26301 in Memory of Michael. The donations will be used for future students who plan to pursue a career in Emergency Services.
