Free Amateur Radio Cram Course

Charleston, WV (March 16, 2009): The Kanawha Amateur Radio Club, Inc. (KARC) will conduct an amateur Radio Cram Course for FCC Technician Class amateur radio operators on Saturday, March 28, 2009 from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.at the Kanawha County Emergency Ambulance Authority at 601 Brooks Street, Charleston, WV 25301. The Cram Course will be followed by VE testing at 1:30 p.m.
There is no charge for the course and it is open to the general public. All study materials will be provided. Emergency Responders i.e. EMS, Fire Service, Police, ARES, Public Health Workers and other disaster responders will be able to test without charge. The cost of each examination is $15.00 (cash or check) for non-emergency response personnel. All applicants must bring a photo ID and a copy of your FCC issued Amateur Radio License for upgrade (General and Amateur Extra) examinations.
The Cram Course is sponsored by the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Services' Division of Threat Preparedness, the West Virginia Office of Emergency Medical Services and it is coordinated by West Virginia EMS Technical Support Network, Inc. The first 30 licensed EMS agencies who have three or more staff members attend the course and successfully pass the exam will receive a dual-band amateur band radio, power supply, and antenna. This is the first of five sessions which will be held around the State.
