With the recent addition of required West Virginia Mass Casualty Incident (MCIM) training to the elective hours for EMT-Basics, we expect the need for courses to increase. In an attempt to meet this need, the requirement of attending an "MCIM Train-the-Trainer" course prior to serving as an instructor for this course has been removed.

Effective January 1, 2009, the West Virginia MCI Awareness (Module I) and West Virginia MCI Operations (Module II) may be instructed by any Squad Training Officer or RESA-certified EMS instructor who has completed the course. Other individuals may also be approved by the TSN regional field office on a case-by-case basis after a review of their qualifications. Documentation of course completion should be submitted to the regional field office following the current Continuing Medical Education process. The curriculum for these courses is available for download on the Office of EMS website at: /files/curriculum/mass-casualty-incident-management. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions. I can be reached in the Office at 304.558.3956 or by email at Deron.E.Wilkes@wv.gov. Thank you for your assistance.
