The West Virginia EMS System continues to make forward progress in statewide implementation of an Electronic Patient Care Record. The usability of the data collected through the EPCR is only as good as the "background" data from which the EPCR system operates.

In an effort to improve the data available to us and to assist you in making the switch to EPCRs, the Office of EMS has partnered with the West Virginia Cardiovascular Health Program to provide regional training on the use of EPCRs, CIS, and other related tools. This training will be an opportunity for your agency to learn about CIS and its importance, PreMIS, and vendorbased EPCR solutions. We hope to have representatives from each approved vendor on hand to demo their product and answer your questions.

Thanks to the funding from the Cardiovascular Health program, we will be able to provide this training FREE OF CHARGE. The training will take place on Friday evening and Saturday. We will be providing lodging and meals for two (2) representatives from each agency. Attached to this memo is a list of dates and locations for these sessions. Please review the list and contact me to schedule your session. Pre-registration is required. I will provide additional information regarding agenda and lodging instructions once you register.

This background data is collected in part through our data system known as the "Credentialing Information System" or CIS. This database system forms the backbone of all Electronic Patient Care Records - no matter vendor-based or PreMIS. Therefore, it is imperative that your agency understands the use of CIS and its importance. In addition to the EPCR use, CIS will become the system the WV Office of EMS will use to issue all personnel certifications and agency licenses. Agency affiliation, certification modifications, and other similar issues will be managed through CIS.

This will be an excellent opportunity for you to learn the functions and operation of CIS and, if you have not reached a decision about what route your agency will take concerning EPCRs, to discuss with vendors and other users the benefits and drawbacks to the various options. I hope you will take advantage of this opportunity.

Please contact me as early as possible to schedule you training - space is limited at each site. I look forward to hearing from you. I can be reached by phone (304.558.3956) or by email (deron.e.wilkes@wv.gov).
