EMSA-Intermediate

Information regarding certification, renewal, and legal recognition (reciprocity) for the EMSA-Intermediate.

Initial Certification

Personnel qualify for certification as an EMSA-I by meeting the following requirements:

  • Successfully completed an approved EMSA-I training course following the DOT National Standard Curriculum.
  • Successfully complete both the written and practical examination (National Registry written examination).
  • Possess current WV certification as an EMT-B.
  • Possess a current CPR card.
  • Be affiliated with a West Virginia Licensed EMS Agency.
  • Apply for EMSA-I certification with the Interactive EMS Certification Application. After completing payment online, you will be presented with a fingerprint voucher. Take this voucher to an authorized background check provider and complete the background check process.
  • Mail a copy of current CPR card to the Office of EMS.

Recertification

Personnel qualify for recertification as an EMSA-I by meeting the requirements set forth by the EMSA-Intermediate Recertification Requirements Policy:

  • Complete the Interactive EMS Certification Application and pay for your certification. After completing payment online, you will be presented with a fingerprint voucher. Take this voucher to an authorized background check provider and complete the background check process.
  • Submit proof of a current approved CPR credential for the professional rescuer.
  • Complete four (4) hours of Hazmat Awareness training each certification period.
